CANCER CI – 2008 - a knowledge update on the latest trends in global cancer care!

Hyderabad, February 8, 2008: Apollo Cancer Institutel, Hyderabad is hosting the International meet - CANCER CI – 2008 (CANCER CARE EDUCATION & RESEARCH CONFERENCE INTERNATIONALE) in association with The New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York & Cure Foundation, Hyderabad on February 9th & 10th, 2008, at Hotel Taj Krishna

The conference is being co-hosted by Association of RadiationOncologists of India (AROI), Indian Society of Oncology (ISO),Indian Society of Medical & Pediatric Oncology (ISMPO) and IndianCo-operative Oncology Network (ICON).

CANCER CI – 2008 is being inaugurated by H E Shri N. D. Tiwari,Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh on February 9, 2008 at 7.00 pm\at Hotel Taj Krishna. Smt. Renuka Chowdary, Hon’ble Minister for

Women & Child Development, Govt. of India will launch the “National Apollo Cancer Care Network” on this occasion. National Apollo Cancer Networks links all Apollo Cancer Institutes in thecountry through telemedicine and aids in discussion about patient care on day-to-day basis.

CANCER CI – 2008 is focusing on several aspects, which will upgradethe knowledge and enhance the skills of our doctors with the latestglobal developments in cancer care, says Dr. Vijay Anand Reddy, Director,Apollo Cancer Institute, Hyderabad.

Speaking about the Cancer CI conference, Ms. Sangita Reddy,Executive Director, Apollo Hospital Group said, cancer isIndia’s second largest killer after infectious diseases. In woman the incidence of cervical and breast cancers is high,

which is curable with a good survival rate of 5 years. Sheadded new technology; new techniques and newer capabilitiesare changing the profile of this dreadful disease.

Dr Vijay Anand Reddy added that this conference should stimulate intellectual intake. The combined effort of US and Indian specialists is a great knowledge gaining and dissemination exercise. Our goal, aim and hope is that one day we can declare that cancer is curable with the rapid progress technology is making. The National & International connoisseurs of Oncology will enlighten the medical fraternity here with the latest advances in diagnostics and therapeutics, he added.

The highlights topics of the Conference are:

PET-CT Guided IMRT Workshop – Apollo Cancer Institute, Hyderabad, the only center in the country with PET-CT Guided IMRT facility is organising a hands on experience workshop on PET-CT Guided IMRT on 8th February at Apollo Cancer Institute between 2-5 pm.

Dr. Chitty R. Moorthy, M.D., New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY, U.S.A. will deliver a keynote address “Non-surgical Loco-regional Modalities in the Fight against Cancers of Women and Children” On 9th February.

Dr. Murali Chintagumpala, Professor, Dept. of Pediatrics Oncology, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston will deliver Keynote Address on “Newer Modalities of Treatment in Pediatric Solid Malignancies” on 10th February, 2008.

The othmer interesting topics being presented during the two day conference are “Robotic Surgery in Cancer Management” by Dr. Linus Chuang, M.D., Professor, Surgical Oncology, Mt. Sinai Medical School, U.S.A; Umbilical Cord Blood Banking by Mr. Sadanand Mankikar, Quality Consultant, Insception BioSciences, Toronto, Canada and Radiotherapy in Eye tumors in Children by Dr. Vijay Anand P. Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Institute, Hyderabad. An Exclusive Symposium on Organ and Function Preservation in Head & Neck Cancers is also part of the conference.
