Cine actress Ramya Krishna flags off “Cancer Awareness Campaign”
Hyderabad, February 04, 2008: Tollywood actress Ramya Krishna flagged off Cancer Awareness Walk organized by Apollo Cancer Institute and the Cure Foundation (a not for profit organization) at KBR Park, today. This Cancer Awareness Campaign was organized with the theme “Cancer is Curable.”
International Union Against Cancer has marked February 4th as World Cancer Day, to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. To commemorate this day Apollo Cancer Hospital has organized Cancer Awareness Campaign including the Walk.
The campaign emphasized on the fact that ‘Cancer can be prevented, if detected early it can be cured.’
Women in large numbers from Deloitte, Accenture, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Roshini, FLO, Make a Wish Foundation, Astha, Aga Khan Health Services, WIN, COWE etc, participated in the walk. Women wearing PINK Ribbons walked the stretch between KBR Park main gate and Apollo Health City at Jubilee Hills.
The participants on arrival at Apollo Lawns formed a Human Ribbon wearing pink caps and holding pink balloons to symbolize their support for the Breast Cancer Awareness. Dr. Vijay Anand P. Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Institute, Hyderabad, briefed the huge gathering of women on prevention, detection and cure of cancer. A Cancer Survivor shared her experience with the audience. All the participants were issued Free Cancer Check Cards, each worth Rs. 2,300/-.
Ms. Ramya Krishna also launched the APOLLO CANCER HELPLINE on the occassion.
Incidence of cancer is increasing at an alarming rate throughout the world. Nine lakh new cases are detected every year in our own country. The only way to conquer cancer is by prevention and early detection, says Dr. Vijay Anand P. Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Institute, Hyderabad. |
