CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Granular fluorescence of the cytoplasm ( cANCA ) is specific for Wegener's granulomatosis. 90% of cases test positive during the active stage while only 30 to 40%
of cases test positive during remission stage.Target antigen is Proteinase-3.
Presence of anti myeloperoxidase ( pANCA ) can indicate rapid-progressive
glomerulonephritis, microscopic polyangitis and other forms of vasculitis.
In ulcerative colitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis and other diseases pANCA are also found, which mainly do not react with myeloperoxidase, but are directed against other not yet identified target antigens.
