Granular fluorescence of the cytoplasm ( cANCA ) is specific for Wegener’s granulomatosis. 90% of cases test positive during the active stage while only 30 to 40% of cases test positive during remission stage.Target antigen is Proteinase-3.

Presence of anti myeloperoxidase ( pANCA ) can indicate rapid-progressive glomerulonephritis, microscopic polyangitis and other forms of vasculitis.anti_neutrophil anti_neutrophil1In ulcerative colitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis and other diseases pANCA are also found,which mainly do not react with myeloperoxidase, but are directed against other not yet identified target antigens.
