The need for a Complete Emergency Management System

It is time to enhance this service and focus on all areas of emergency services. The need today is for a uniform system of emergency care across the country that is of highest standards of quality and preparedness. The system should be medically sound, accessible, affordable and effective

      • An easy to remember emergency access number for the society

      • Ambulances which are well equipped and manned by trained personnel

      • Air Ambulance Services for remote areas and life threatening emergencies

      • Networking of ambulances in order to provide the quickest access to a victim

      • Effective communication system between the central control room, ambulances and the emergency facilities in hospitals

      • Awareness in the society to use the network optimally

      • Standardized emergency rooms in the hospitals included in the network
      • Common functional and medical protocols across the system

      • Training of doctors and other personnel required for pre-hospital and in-hospital care

      • Accident insurance card to increase affordability

      • Community involvement in rescuing emergency victims and mobilizing emergency response

The National Network of Emergency Services

A uniform system of emergency care across the country was developed by Apollo Group of Hospitals after three years of research. During the developmental process, emphasis was laid on creating a quality emergency care system that is financially, socially and geographically applicable across the country.

The system has several unique and innovative features like an easy to remember emergency access number – 1066,  Ambulances that are well equipped and manned by trained personnel, Air Ambulance Services, Effective communication system between the central control room, ambulances and the emergency facilities in the hospitals using GPRS, Standardized emergency rooms, Common functional and medical protocols across the system, Training of doctors and other personnel required for pre-hospital and in-hospital care,

This system has been tried and tested in Hyderabad that was launched in April 2002 and the success of the protocol has led to the implementation of this service in Apollo Hospitals, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkotta, Pune, Ahmedabad and Banglore. Today the nucleus of what could be termed as the ultimate network in Chennai, Hyderabad and New Delhi is functional and is available for public use.
